چکیده

We here use a 3D seismic reflection dataset from the Outer Kwanza Basin, offshore Angola to examine structure and growth of salt-detached strike-slip faults. The faults occur in four, up 13.8 km-long, NE-trending arrays that are physically linked by restraining bends releasing stepovers, which presently overlie Aptian salt base-salt relief related pre-salt faulting. suggest these formed accommodate along-margin variations rate magnitude differential seaward translation diapirism, commenced Early Cretaceous. illustrate grew tip propagation isolated fault segments, some during Albian-Cenomanian (i.e., 113–100.5 Ma, or initial 11%–13% their deformation history). Some then reached near-final length within subsequent ca. 77 Ma (or next 69%–81% history), while others attained this later, 18 after 95% During time, segments breached with as whole growing alternating periods lengthening throw accumulation, punctuated phases inactivity. Our results also show scatter D-L scaling reflects propagation, interaction, linkage individual segments.

Hydropower Production in Future Climate Scenarios: The Case for Kwanza River, Angola

Climate change is altering hydrological processes with varying degrees in various regions of the world and remains a threat to water resources projects in southern Africa. The likely negative impacts of changes in Africa may be worse than in most other regions of the world. This study is an evaluation of the possible impacts of climate change on water resources and hydropower production potenti...

Gas hydrate-related sedimentary pore pressure changes offshore Angola

The thickness of the free gas column below the base of the gas hydrate stability zone is a proxy for the pore pressure in the free gas bearing sediments underneath. In the study area the pore over-pressrues derived under this assumption range between 0 and 1430 kPa ± 30% which appear to be the typical maximum over-pressure that the gas hydrate sediments can withstand before hydro-fracturing occ...

A new species of Heterospio (Polychaeta, Longosomatidae) from offshore Angola.

A new polychaete species of the longosomatid genus Heterospio is described from the coastal shelf off Angola in the Southeast Atlantic. This species was found from two sampling points at depths of 105 and 146 m, and differs from other members of the family in having eight short thoracic setigers, in the lack of neuropodial acicular hooks in the first setiger, and in having only three pairs of b...

Inner and outer approximation of capture basin using interval analysis

This paper proposes a new approach to solve the problem of computing the capture basin C of a target T. The capture basin corresponds to the set of initial states such that the target is reached in finite time before possibly leaving of constrained set. We present an algorithm, based on interval analysis, able to characterize an inner and an outer approximation C− ⊂ C ⊂ C+ of the capture basin....
